Three days is enough for Cartagena if you sequence it well. Here is the order we would use, and why.
Day one: the city. Arrive, settle, and take the afternoon chiva city tour. It runs about 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM and covers Bocagrande bay, San Felipe Castle, Torre del Reloj, Las Bovedas, and the Muelle de los Pegasos. You end in the walled city at golden hour, which is exactly where you want to be on your first evening. Eat in the old town and walk.
Day two: the islands. This is the day worth protecting, so put it early in case the weather makes you move it. The Five Island Premium runs about 7:45 AM to 8:30 PM, visiting Bocachica, Cholon, Agua Azul, Isla Grande, and Playa Tranquila, with lunch, snorkeling, and the bioluminescent plankton at the end. If you would rather go slow, swap in a single beach club day instead.
Day three: choose your ending. The Totumo mud volcano is the memorable option, roughly 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM with a typical lunch. Or keep the day free for the old town and finish with the party boat on the bay in the evening, either 7:00 PM or 9:00 PM.
Why this order: the city tour orients you, the island day is weather dependent so it needs room to move, and day three flexes around whatever you have energy for. Book the island day first.
Yes, for the essentials: the walled city, an island day, and one more experience. Four or five days lets you add a second island or slow down.
Earlier is better. Island tours depend on weather and sea conditions, so booking early in your trip leaves room to move the day if needed.
Yes. Send your dates, group size, and the kind of trip you want on WhatsApp and we will build a sequence and quote it.
Totumo is a full day and the more unusual memory. The party boat is two hours in the evening and pairs well with a free day in the old town. You can do both on different days.
