Ships dock in Manga, minutes from the walled city. Here is what genuinely fits in a day ashore, and what does not.
Cartagena is a regular stop on Caribbean and Panama Canal itineraries, and the port sits in the Manga district, a short ride from the old town and Bocagrande. Most calls give passengers somewhere between five and nine hours ashore.
That window sounds generous until you subtract disembarkation, transport, and the buffer you need at the end. In practice, a day ashore is one main thing done well, plus time in the old town.
What fits comfortably: the chiva city tour, which covers Bocagrande bay, San Felipe Castle, Torre del Reloj, and Las Bovedas in an afternoon. Or the ATV tour on Tierra Bomba, which is about four hours. Or a beach day at Palmarito on Tierra Bomba, which is close by sea.
What is tight: the Totumo mud volcano runs roughly 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, so it only works with an early, long call. Full Rosario island days run until evening and generally do not fit a cruise schedule at all.
Our advice is simple. Send us your ship's arrival and departure times before you book anything, and we will tell you honestly what fits with margin. We would rather you enjoy one thing properly than sprint through three and watch your ship leave.

Most cruise calls allow five to nine hours ashore. Plan on one main experience plus time in the old town, with a buffer before departure.
Usually not. Full island days run until the evening and rarely fit a ship's window. A beach day on Tierra Bomba is the closer alternative.
